How to Rotate Your Tires at Home

Rotating Tires

Rotating your tires at home is a great way to learn more about your car and save money in Turnersville. Why You Should Rotate Your Tires:

Rough roads and driving habits in Cherry Hill cause tires to wear unevenly.  When tires wear, the outside edges thin and the treads grow shallow. Front tires generally wear faster than the rear tires on front-wheel drive vehicles, but other drivetrains will wear your tires down in different ways.

When to Rotate Your Tires

Knowing when to rotate your tires is the first step to keeping your car safe in Maple Shade. Front and rear-wheel-drive cars generally need their tires rotated every six months or 5,000 – 7,500 miles. All-wheel-drive vehicles require rotation more frequently, every 3,000 – 5,000 miles.

Tire Position

  • FWD Tires: Move the front tires to the back of the car in the same left/right positions. When it’s time to move the rear tires to the front, you must switch the right and left tire.
  • RWD Tires: Rear tires can be moved to the front of the car in the same left/right positions. When you move the front tires to the rear, you need to switch the left and right tire.

How to Rotate Your Tires

Rotating your tires may sound like a difficult task, but if you follow these instructions, you’ll find it’s as easy as changing your oil! To begin, you’ll need:

  • A car jack
  • Lug nut wrench
  • Four car jack stands

After you have these tools, follow these 5 easy steps to rotate your tires!

  1. Use the car jack to lift up one wheel of the car and place the jack stand under the frame. Lower the car jack until the frame is resting on the jack stand. Repeat this for all four tires.
  2. Loosen the lug nuts on each wheel.
  3. Remove one tire at a time and make sure they are filled to their optimal tire pressure.
  4. Rotate tires according to your vehicle type. Place tires back on the wheel mount and screw the lug nuts on by hand as far as you can.
  5. Lower the car from the jack stands and use the lug wrench to finish tightening the nuts. Tighten the lug nuts diagonally from one to another in a star pattern to ensure even tightening.

Even if you rotate at all of the proper intervals, your tires will eventually need to be replaced. When that day comes, you can find exactly what you need, at the right price, at our Turnersville Acura tire center.
